Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

Opening ceremonies: August 8 (in Beijing, although Hong Kong Olympics organizers are throwing a smaller opening-ceremony parade and reception at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and the Jockey Club and Olympic host hotels are offering big-screen broadcasts of the festivities in Beijing)

Eventing first horse inspection (“jog”): August 8

Eventing dressage: August 9 and 10

Cross-country: August 11

Eventing second horse inspection: August 12

Eventing jumping and team and individual medal ceremonies: August 12

Dressage horse inspection: August 10

Dressage competition begins August 13 with the first day of the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix results will decide the team medals. With only three riders to a team (down from four, as in the past), all scores will count; there will be no “drop scores.”
